Shouting "NI HAO" or "KONNICHIWA"

An important issue to raise. (please click on link for more info)

This happens to me at least once a week (sometimes multiple times in one day) and I've been in Edinburgh since I was 3 years old. I am often left without the words to explain why I feel so hurt and angered by it.

It is not OK to shout NI HAO in the street at people who look E/SE Asian.

"Shouting NI HAO is by far the most common form of verbal harassment targeted towards not just Chinese people, but anyone who 'looks' East Asian or Southeast Asian. It demean the person's whole identity to one word from a culture that may or may not identify with them. Moreover when we have responded with ni hao, it is met with laughter and ridicule, further humiliating and demeaning us"
